JCB was founded in 1945 by Joseph Cyril Bamford. His first product was a trailer, and he soon saw the potential for hydraulics introducing hydraulically operated tipping trailer in 1948.
The first backhoe loader was launched in 1953, the same year the JCB logo was introduced. They have gone on to build farm and construction machinery ever since.
