A pinto horse is a horse that has a patterned coat of white and another color.
The Conquistadors brought their spotted Spanish horses to America in the 16th Century. The word pinto comes from the Spanish word pintado.
Pintos with a medicine hat, a large patch of color that cover the ears and the top of the head like a bonnet, were believed by the Native Americans to have special powers to protect their riders from harm during war.
The Pinto Horse Association of America has a large registry of horse from the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
