Warmbloods is one of three terms (in addition to cold-blooded, which refers to draft horses, and hot-blooded, which refers to Thoroughbreds and Arabians) that describes a horse's physical nature and temperament. A warmblood horse is commonly gentle like a draft and is athletic like a Thoroughbred or Arabian.
The original uses of most warmbloods were riding, carriage driving and cavalry.
Warmbloods are most commonly used in dressage, show jumping, eventing and driving (a horse or horse pull a person in a carriage).
Warmbloods are named for the countries and regions in which there are bred. For example, the Hanoverian originated in Hanover, Germany.
